Except for giving the handler clearance to begin the performance, the judge gives no further orders or directions as the handler directs the team through the course. The judge moves along with the team scoring the performance. Rally promotes fun and enjoyment for dogs and handlers at all levels of competition. Multiple verbal commands along with verbal encouragement between dog and handler is allowed and encouraged, but the handler may not touch the dog or make physical corrections. Rally is a great sport for establishing and improving a happy and healthy relationship with your dog that relates directly to general and competitive obedience. SLODOG holds Rally practices at our Saturday run-throughs (see Calendar at right). These are NOT formal teacher-student seminars. Rather, they're informal gatherings with “teams” (dog + handler) of all levels. Our exercise signs are frequently double-stacked, meaning there is a Novice sign as well as an Advanced or Excellent sign on one stake, so all levels can practice on the same course at the same time. Double-stacking also provides the Novice team opportunities to become familiar with Advanced and Excellent signs and observe how they are performed. See our Events page for more about SLODOG Saturday Run-Throughs. Here are some great Web sources of information about the sport of Rally: |
